| RVtravel.com and Better Business Bureau Join Forces To Produce "Buying an RV" DVD |
Moscow, ID - The Better Business Bureau has joined forces with RVtravel.com and RV travel guru Chuck Woodbury to provide a must have consumer education program for every potential RV buyer in America.
Entitled Buying a Recreational Vehicle, the video is available today on DVD and VHS from the BBB and at RVbookstore.com, and, according to Woodbury, it recognizes the fact that the purchase of an RV is oftentimes the second largest purchase in the life of countless Americans.
"Viewing this DVD is simply the most complete insurance would-be buyers can get for ensuring they get the right RV at the right price," said Woodbury. "Nobody produces better consumer protection products than the Better Business Bureau, and together we've teamed up to educate and protect consumers in the very personal and important process of buying a recreational vehicle."
Buying a Recreational Vehicle, addresses the $10.4 billion recreational vehicle industry and focuses on different types, sizes and floor plans of RV's, the differences between gas and diesel, as well as educating the consumer on how to check the credibility of an RV dealer or private party.
"This is important stuff," said Woodbury, who added that the video also provides consumers with locations that they can access additional RV information and become educated on how to evaluate a used RV. "This is a big purchase for many Americans, and the decision shouldn't be a rush job. To get the best deal, a consumer should do their homework, they should not get emotional and they should sleep on it. Then, and only then, should they make this important—and wonderful—decision."
"Buying a recreational vehicle is one of the largest investments a person will make in his or her lifetime, so it's important to be an informed and educated consumer," added Woodbury, who in a past life roamed the western U.S. in a motorhome and wrote and published Out West, a folksy newspaper about life on the road in an RV.
Among the consumer tips offered in the new BBB-RVtravel.com video is a caution against buying recreational vehicles from parking lots or campgrounds; making certain the previous owner has a verifiable address; not to be rushed by the seller; and spending several hours using your imagination and acting out your "real life" daily routine before the 'big' purchase.
Because of the many different needs and lifestyles, the RV industry has come up with a variety of types, styles and floor plans. Woodbury walks the viewer through the different towables and motorized RVs, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each. "What's right for a full-time RVer is probably not right for a family for use only on summer vacations," he said.
That DVD advises consumers to check a used RV for water damage and "dry rot", as both are deceptively expensive to repair, and to always call the BBB for a reliability report on the dealer before buying an RV.
"The video medium is an excellent vehicle for this type of consumer education. Instead of telling the consumers to 'kick the tires,' we show consumers HOW to kick the tires," said Woodbury, whose RV lifestyle and industry knowledge has been showcased in the New York Times, People magazine, NBC's Today Show and dozens of leading national publications over the years.
In addition to Woodbury, the DVD features comments from a number of knowledgeable veteran RVers and well-known RV educators. (Most of the interviews were conducted during the 2005 RV Life on Wheels Conference at the University of Idaho in Moscow.)
RVtravel.com is excited to begin its partnership with the BBB, and is is currently offering the video for an introductory price of $19.95 to online visitors of its partner website RVbookstore.com. The Washington state-based web company has a longstanding tradition of solid and efficient customer service and ethics in business, making it a perfect Better Business Bureau partner, which continues in its proud tradition of 100 years of protecting America's consumers, according to Donald Burkholder, BBB Video Series President.
